A Fair to Remember

The U.S. Space Park at the 1964–1965 New York World's Fair was filled with spacecraft, rockets, and satellites — both real and mockups. NASA, together with the U.S. Department of Defense, sponsored the exhibition. This image features Grumman's 1964 Lunar Module concept mockup for NASA's Apollo program.

I created two versions of this scene. I call the daytime version seen at the top of the page Sunbreak. It depicts the bright orange glow of the setting sun against the clouds.

The night time version seen below has a starry black sky and is called Moonglow.

The title of this piece is a reference to my memories of attending the World's Fair during both of its exhibiting years.

I wrote about the space displays shown throughout the Fair, and highlighted in a separate article the U.S. Space Park that contained the Lunar Module mockup among other attractions.
